This was prompted by the U.S. state department beginning to issue passports with always-on RFID tags. I have no idea if they British ones are the same, but I still resent being one of the first to have an RFID passport foisted upon me. Wired's advice:
The best approach? Hammer time. Hitting the chip with a blunt, hard object should disable it. A nonworking RFID doesnt invalidate the passport, so you can still use it.
